When can I realistically sow peas?

Any advice on when I can sow my peas (seed packets, as we know, can be a bit vague!). I have meteor, early onward and kelvedon wonder (think meteor is the earliest?). I plan on starting them off indoors in loo roll tubes, like last year, then planting out (clay soil, though its had lots of compost mixed in, and im in scunthorpe so north-ish). When's the earliest I can plant? (and would I be able to get an earlier crop with some in pots, maybe with fleece over them?)

I have already planted some Kelvedon Wonder, and half of them are racing up already, a few are 3" tall already. I planted them about 3 weeks ago, I have an abundance of pea seeds so I thought I would experiment and plant some in January. So far pleased with the results and looking forward to the peas.

I've sown three small lots since Xmas two have been put out on the lottie with a bit of fleece over and the third lot is just poking through. The fleece is off at the mo as the weather is great but will go back if cold or very wet weather is forcast.

My Feltham First went in yesterday in the greenhouse and out on the plot. That way I get one crop slightly earlier than the other.

Mangetout seeds planted in small trays in the cold greenhouse a fortnight or so ago, have just begun to germinate yesterday. Sugarsnap Pea seeds planted in lengths of guttering a week later, not germinating yet.

I sowed peas Onward about a week ago. they are up already. They are in toilet roll holders in a cold greenhouse. Also red, white and yellow onions also from seed. All are up and looking healthy so far. Sowed some chilli seeds yesterdat in a heated propogator in my cold greenhouse.

I've sowed some Douce Provence in rootrainers about a month ago. They've been in the greenhouse ever since and are looking pretty good - I hope to plant in the next couple of weeks, then cover with something (I need pigeon protection more than anything!).

Meteor are pretty tough - I would get them going now.

It is thought to be important not to let the young peas fall over and touch the ground - "they" say that it can reduce the yield. I've no evidence to suggest this is fact, but in any case it's sensible to get your pot-grown peas in before they are too tall, and to give them early support.

Im only in my second season of growing veg and this time last week i bought some small plastic pots and sowed peas in them I now have around 12-15 that have already shot through in around 2 weeks they will be ready for planting outside. Hope this helps as im not an expert

Get sowing any time but make sure that the ground is warm and that you keep the seeds covered with a cloche to protect them from the frost

They are a 19th century french variety and have withstood gale force winds, rain of biblical proportion and several hard frosts since january when I planted them outside. So far 1 plant had 1 tip frost damaged. So watch this space to see how they do. I would say you should have started your peas already but not too late!! Pyewacket

The peas I grew last year were only about 8 inches tall and didn't need support but this year I have Kevlendon wonder can anyone tell me how tall they normally grow and if they will need support please

They sound interesting pyewacket. Do you have a variety name?

I sowed Kelvedon Wonder, Latvian and Oregon Sugar Snap on New Years Day. They're still in the greenhouse but all looking ok. I'm going to plant some out soon but keep others in the g/h (just in case!).
