Sowed 2 each of cucumber and courgette as practice run to see how fast they germinate on the window sill seeing as my heated propagator is going to be tied up for a good while. Also sowed artichoke seeds that had been chilled in fridge for just over 2 weeks. Sowed more tomatoes that failed to germinate after over 2 weeks (chucked away the failed ones). Tomorrow will sow various Oriental leafy veggies and maybe Leeks, parsley, sweet basil, coriander and spring onions.Last edited by veg4681; 09-02-2008, 11:36 PM.Food for Free

Aaarrrggggghhhhh stop this mental cruelty.
I am out here planting nothing but wanting to plant loads.
The boss picked up our early spuds yesterday so they will now be chitting and I shall plant them when I get home in 3 weeks.
Onions, toms, peppers and a chilly all doing well on the windowsill by all accounts. Asked the boss to send me some pics but she told me I was being sad!! Am I?Bob Leponge

I have the use of one of my Dad's greenhouses, and the 'border' beds that we've made around it. Last year my OH and Dad pretty much took care of everything, but since my OH is in sub-zero Alberta, Canada, I've promised myself I'll do my own growing this year. I know absolutely nothing, so will proceed to ask lots of silly questions!!
I've got first earlies chitting on the window sill, and plan to grow only basic salad stuffs since I love it all so much. Is there any reason at all why I can't start all these right now, indoors? The greenhouse is unheated and I have plenty of window space at home and seed trays for the following:
Lambs Lettuce
Salad Bowl Lettuce
Oak-Leaf Lettuce
Rocket
Sorrel (Volare)
Land Cress (American)
Spring Onion (Shimonita)
Mangetout (Oregon Sugar Pod)
Yellow Tumbler Tomatoes
Purple Russia Tomatoes
Moneymaker Tomatoes
I was thinking on beetroot as well, to harvest as baby beets - can anyone recommend?“The secret of happiness is not in doing what one likes, but in liking what one does.”

Today has been really nice, it's great to have some sunshine at long last. I managed to finish both bases for my new and second hand greenhouses. Just need to put them up now.
I've already got a few things on the go - Broad Beans - Carrots - Cauliflower - Cabbage - Strawberries and a few plants. Potatoes are now chitting away, I'm unsure when these will be ready. I'll be having a look at early pea's and a few other things once I've got the first greenhouse up (no more space on the windowsill).
Keep It Green!
