        spuds

The correct answer is - Earlies - 8
        2nd earlies - 8
        Maincrop - 8
This has been accepted by all known authorities on the subject, and anything else is codswallop !

          Hi Bridget

Are you telling us you planted or intend planting 20 large sacks of seed potatoes for personal consumption?

              This year I'm planting
              20 Desiree - maincrop
              20 Harlequin - early maincrop/salad
10 Ulster Sceptre - First Early (in pots)
              5 Charlotte - 2nd Early/Salad (in pots)
              5 Anya - 2nd Early/Salad (in pots)
              5 Mimi - 2nd Early/Salad (in pots)

If I had more space, I'd grow more maincrop spuds - as we're a family of 5 these won't last long! But 20 bags... I suspect you might end up filling a lot of your acre?!

Just out of interest Bridget, can I ask:-

                        a) What part of the UK/Europe or for that matter the World do you garden in?
                        b) What was the potato variety you've bought?
                        c) Do you intend cultivating the area and planting them by hand?

It sometimes helps when answering gardening queries to know the rough area you grow in and this can be added to your user details if you like and will be shown on the top right hand side of any threads you submit.

Bridget i have been thinking some people say that is dangerous but here go's your 500kg of seed potatoes if you sort the big ones out you could eat them and see if you like the taste majic if not you will have a lot of spuds that you aint going to like .
Another thought is if the average is 10 spuds per kg that is 5000 spuds by the time you finnish planting them the first one's will be popping through that is if you do not get fed up with the job i do not think you know what you have started jacob

I know the rules of rotating crops, but will i have trouble in planting my spuds in the same bed as last year. Or am I better moving them on a bed?
