Best time to divide rhubarb?

Me again!

I have 2 rhubarb plants that are huge. Is now the best time to divide it and replant an outer chunk?
Also, can i replant it in the same spot as its in an ideal place?!

I would split only one this year - that way you will still be able to crop from the other one. Next year you can split the one you left this year (hope that is clearer to read than type) as the other ones should have re-established themselves and be ready to crop. If there is space where they are I don't think they need moving, or you could pass extra on to someone else.

I have just dug mine up and split the best one into 3 and replanted them. The other one I have put in a large tub and covered it with an upturned dustbin and moved it inside. I don't want it so I am going to force it to death! It's already erupting in a big way.

Ok thanks, its on the 'To Do' list! Good idea about forcing a chunk in a pot, I might try that too.
