  • Jalepeno Chilli Plants

    Hi

Does anyone know if chilli plants are supposed to survive for more than a year?

Mine grew really well last year, I brought them inside over winter, so the green jalepenos could turn red, and now they're back out in the greenhouse as it's so warm. I've lost one (it turned brown and died) but the rest are still green. Will they fruit again this year?

I'd hate to throw them out if they are still ok, but no point taking up valuable space if they're not going to survive.

As long as they survive they will grow again and give you another good crop of chillies.

If you fancy some good reading on chillies the visit the following website.

      Welcome to the vine RachaelC.

Chillies are parennial but in europe they are usually killed by frost and grown as annual.
I overwintered my pepper too, he is now producing some pepper (I feed them with light liquid fertilizer). Sadly there is no guarantee that your Jalapeno will produce again or not in their second year, try to feed them with some light fertilizer and see what happen.
You can always resow the seeds again . good Luck.

Some of them just refuse to produce after overwintering, I have no idea why .

That's great guys, thank you. I've now rushed outside and put some organic fertiliser on them, and watered in a little. I'll keep good care of them and let you know how they come along.

I'm intrigued.... if some varieties of chili are so dangerously hot, how does anyone eat them...

I was asking my self the same question over the hot chilies I am growing ?
I actually like them more as an ornament as I don't consume that much chili. I might try to make some bomb hot chili sauce out of it too .

You don't need a propagator to germinate chillies. I sowed hungarian hot wax, big jim and early jalapeno at the end of January and they're all through Just on the kitchen windowsill with a small poly bag over till they start to come through.

thanx for that flummery ill get some on the window sill then. It was mainly the dorset naga i was worried about with it having all the warnings, wear gloves, when sowing the seeds coughing and sneezeing may happen, dont leave where unsuspecting persons may touch, eating a whole one may result in hospital treatment etc... ive got 6 very nosey cats so wanted to make sure they arent in interfering reach LOL

ill deffinatly get some more hot wax and jalapenos planted now tho
