Gardening in the rain

Not just wet but cold with it. About 10 degrees and billed to be 2 or 3 overnight. Got my tumbling toms and courgettes all back in the greenhouse.Why do we put ourselves through this.

Woke up to rain this morning and went to bed tonight to rain. Still chucking it down. Did'nt stop the whole day. Just watched the forecast and all it said for the near future is more of the same with colder winds.

not a chance of getting out here today - howling gales and horizontal rain... and the forecast is for more of the same. tomatoes looking stoic, everything else is just kind of hugging the soil and looking at me as if I'm mad. spuds are now too tall to earth up or mulch with grass, but not a sign of a flower. grass is about a mile high - god knows how we'll ever get it cut.

I'm fed up! Took today off work with every intention of spending the day tending the veg plot and it is absolutely persisting down! Never mind - joined the forum instead. After spending weeks looking at the site and reading all the helpful advice thought it was about time I joined in. Everyone seems really friendly so really looking forward to participating. This is my first year of growing fruit and vegetables, so I have found this website and GYO mag very helpful. Keep up the good work.

Welcome to the forum Blueberry. I am sick to death of the rain. It seems none stop at the moment and not much sign of it stopping this week either!

It's rained all weekend here & the only times I've been in the garden is in the drizzle in the dark with a torch to pick off all the slugs & snails. The rain has really brought them out & I even caught four snails climbing up the back door trying to get in the house! Can just see the rain gauge on my weather station filling up as I look at it from the kitchen window.

Rain and more rain here, had to pull out two lupins that had lupin aphids, they were finished, shame but it happens and means I can't grow them anymore but hey! More room for veg!

Just checked 5day forcast for my area on the bbc web site. Looks like rain, rain and more rain.the lotty looks like a bomb site. If all my plants that are in the ground don't drown it will be more than just lucky.Just hope my onions don't all rot off!Infact hope nothing rots off,but it wouldn't suprise me!!! Oh, here we go again...bucketing it down again.Welcome Blueberry,please excuse my moaning about the weather. I'm not always this grumpy!!

At least with the rain we don't have to worry about watering...? A good time of year to rain I think too as we have nice warm days too (sometimes ) and the combination of the two means good plant growth

Does mean I came in from the garden looking like I'd been in a mud fight though!

Same here Jennie. We've had sunny showers fior the last four days - one really heavy shower on Friday, today is very warm in the sun but there is a stiff breeze just to remind you that we're not quite into summer yet.
