How can I grow baked beans that don't come out of a tin?

Baked beans are Haricot beans. Dried climbing French beans are said to be the same or similar.

Nice thing about doing you own baked beans is you can have any flavour you like, not just tomato.

Most commercial growers tell you they use 'navy beans' the american name for white beans.

Not tried growing them yet, but I make my own 'baked' beans with dried haricots. You can put lots of garlic in and sun-dried toms and chopped olives - oh, wipes dribble off keyboard! (And no salt or sugar) Knocks 57 varieties into a cocked hat.

We made them last year with our glut of toms. They did not taste right! We need the 'heinz' recipe.

We tried for 3 years in a row to make tomato ketchup that the kids would eat, never managed to get it right ("It tastes funny.." ) although the grown-ups all loved it! I've given up now, I'm not wasting any more precious tomatoes on those ungrateful blighters!
