Are there any veg which I shouldn't plant in compost enriched with chicken manure? My dad seems to think it's a miracle ingredient for everything in his garden!

Doggler,
Belief in something is often more important than actual results. I swear by comfry tea and seaweed for my greenhouse crops.
Chicken manure will not provide a complete balance but it will do no harm.Geordie

I too use chicken manure, and I also use seaweed extract and comfrey feed, either liquid or shredded - my garden loves it - don't add farmyard manure because I have yet to find a supplier than guarantee it is organic and free of weed seeds. In my dreams, I know...Best wishes

I use chicken manure pellets on almost everything but I suppose it's not the best thing to use on lime-hating plants & you should try to not get it actually touching the foliage/stems of the plants you put it around.Into every life a little rain must fall.

Not sure if I'm talking rubbish Squirrel but as bird manure is also referred to as 'bird lime' & is high in phosphorus which is something liming the soil increases as well as calcium I assume it is not very beneficial to anything which says 'do not grow where soil has been limed'. Maybe not very good for something like blueberries? It's also quite strong stuff & should be used sparingly & if you are using manure from your own chickens I understand it should be composted or left to break down for a while before you use it.I'm sure some of the other 'grapes' will put this right if it's gobbledygook!Into every life a little rain must fall.

I try to leave mine to break down for a while first but when I run out or room in composters then I'm afraid it goes on neat - in the autumn when the beds are clear I put it on neat in a thick pile with the straw - it stops weeds coming up, encourages the worms and keeps the bed nice until the next year
