Never had the chance of any but I think they add lime to make it more alkaline for the mushrooms so it should be good as a mulch on your brassica patch!
My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order to present to him vegetables and all beautiful flowers.- Offerings of Thutmose III to Amon-Ra (1500 BCE)
Snadger and Deadwood are right... very alkaline and good for cabbages. gives spuds scab etc. you need a soil testing kit and Other wise neutralize it by adding it to you compost heap (that tends to be a bit acid) and bring it into the system like that....always nice when the odd mushroom pops up too!
Mushroom compost is great for clay soils - I wouldnt use it neat for growing anything in but its fine dug in, or like Paulottie says, add it to your compost heap. The stuff I got was straw based and I think its gypsum that is added to make it alkaline, hence why its good for clay (gypsum helps break down clay).
I got 30 bags for £15 including delivery, and the bags were big black binbags with the strawy stuff at the bottom and then soil-lookingy stuff on top. Got zillions of shrooms sprouting as well when I spread it on my soil.
