  • Copper slug rings

Anyone know where the best place to get these are? I've seen some on Ebay but at £20 plus £5 postage that seems a bit steep. What about copper wire, would that work any better?

Any copper would work. pipe, wire, or even coins minted before 1991. coins minted after that date have less copper in them.
A pre 1992 2p peice is now worth 3p as scrap due to the high copper in its make up.

Some people use unravelled copper wire pan scrubbers too but I'm not sure where you get them from, the only ones I see seem to be silver coloured or plastic.

If I used copper pipe around the allotment plots would I need to keep it clean and shiny or will mucky copper work just as well?

My rings of copper pennies (POST 1992!) seem to be working around my brassicas.

Would it work for snails too?

Should do, as they're basically slug with portable homes!

If anyone has a copy of 'Gardeners' World' magazine from June this year on page 159 there is a photo of a snail climbing up what definitely looks like a copper ring & leaning in to nibble a hosta leaf. That's totally ruined my faith in copper now as I would have thought snails are the same as slugs & the copper is supposed to react with the mucus they produce to give them a small shock.Perhaps the one in the photo is just a masochist!

I am having a real problem with snails in my garden at the moment. I've not tried the copper coins but am going to give this a go this weekend and hoping it works as well for snails as for slugs. I have a large collection of coppers in a jar so should be able to find plenty of pre-1991 coins.
