  • My white sprouting...

    ..isn't

I planted it in November, the plants are lovely and healthy looking but there doesn't yet appear to be white bits. How long must a girl wait

My purple sprouting just has a terminal sprout on each plant. I'm waiting for them to get a bit bigger then, 'Off with their heads!' Then you can go on cropping sideshoots for weeks. I like a few PSB (and I should think the same aplies to white) because you have fresh shoots in March/April when things are getting a bit thin on the ground.

I planted my PSB about that time and I haven't had anything either but on close inspection of some of them last weekend I think I can just about identify the beginnings of the 'flowers' so fingers crossed.

                      White Sprouting

I have had one first crop off of one of two of my plants, but this last week has seen a massive change and I am very definitely ready to take a second crop this week.

This is my first year with this crop so I wasn't too sure what I was doing with it. The first harvest was very nice, lightly steamed with a little butter. Very tender and not too far from asparagus in texture.

If you would like a photo, I will happily oblige tomorrow when the sun is shining.

                      xx

                        Photo

As the sun is shining, and as promised, attached are the pics of my 2 plants.

Well, I think they are attached!

I live on the Kent/Sussex border, so the weather has probably helped!

Cerrtainly looks the business! I just took the terminal shoots from 2 of my 3 purple sprouting yesterday. Yummy. Loads of side shoots to come. Only had room for 3 plants - more next year I hope!

Big one on top. Err - maybe I could have put that better. I'll stick to terminal shoots I think!

I dont think you will have long to wait now. I am in East Sussex and I planted mine at the start o October an today i found the first spear on my 'White sprouting broccoli'. I am sure it wasn't there yesterday though! i must need my eye's testing

This is my first veg from my plot i dug last october so i had to refrain from jumping up an down all over them in excitment, as all had managed afor was tomato's an corgettes' in grow bags.

I proudly present my first ever ' White sprouting broccoli'
