Unwanted mushrooms - is this normal?

I'm getting LOADS of tiny mushrooms coming up in my indoor propagators It's not happening in the g/h, so I assume it must be the warmth in the house that's bringing them up but it shouldn't happen at all, should it? I'm pulling them out as soon as they appear, so hopefully no spores are flying around. They don't seem to be doing the seedlings any harm but I don't really want a load of fungi indoors.

The compost is from a well known shop and was only opened when I needed to use it. Is this 'just one of those things' or should I be complaining to the place where I bought it?

We've had a lot of furry mould growing around seedlings this year - I wondered if it was the compost. Have changed bags now so will be keeping an eye on it. Never had mushrooms though - are they edible?!

I have had fur growing around my new citrus plants - in special citrus compost - thought it was particular to them but maybe not.

Haven't had any fungi though.

Just kiddin', what compost are you all using? We were using New Horizon for our seeds, which if it gets too moist (particularly when covered in a prop - heated or not), starts developing strange little circular bits of yellow fungi, never happened before. But not sure if we've used Horizon multi-purpose for seeds before, is seed compost usually sterilised?

J Arthur Bower's citrus compost here - it seems to be the only make for the 'specialised' composts in my local garden centre, though they have a wider range of multi-purpose ones.

Is it sterilised shirley? Don't know anything about growing citrus, does your fungus mean the compost is a bit damp?

Couldn't tell you if it is sterilised, just a bit of fuzzy stuff when it was drying out. Instructions are to let the citrus get really dry between waterings so I just raked the surface with an old fork and it seems to have stopped it. The plants are growing superbly so I guess it isn't doing any harm. Maybe the compost probs are related to the wet year last year (prolly a silly idea but I am new to compost!)

I got mushrooms in one lot of my tomato seeds too. Heated Prop and using J.I. seed compost mixed with fine grade vermiculite

I wasn't sure if I should say but as everyone else is, it's New Horizon that I have the shrooms in. Sounds like I should probably be less of a skinflint and buy proper seed compst

Don't know what you mean! Try googling for info on bat guano (gonna be the secret weapon in the jalapeno growing comp. - have you signed up?) - why are big buds important?

Sorry but are these normal eating mushroom and are they really trying to grow coz I wouldn't have minded so much . I don't look twice at mushroom growing kit in the the shops thinking it's an expensive way to have miushroom but if they grow like mad, well why not.

BTW if it ain't mushroom, I'm getting other seedlings popping through the compost in various pots after repotting.

Nah - they're tiny. I let one go just to see what happened and it got about 5cm high then 'popped' and keeled over. I'll try and get some pics tomorrow (sure to be lots more overnight!).

I've got funny skinny mushroooms on the stuff in my heated propagator too. They look a bit like the funny skinny mushrooms that grew out of cardboard loo roll tubes last year. I'm using newspaper pots so thought they were growing from that, but on closer inspection seems to be actually from the compost. Same compost in seed trays, not in heated propagator is growing white fuzz. photos tomorrow...
