I need a bit of advice on two things.

Firstly I have been trying to chit my potatoes in my unheated greenhouse (covered with some fleece for extra protection). I have charlotte, anya, ulster sceptre, lady christl and pentland javelin. Some of the varieties have developed stubby little shoots, some none and some of each variety have bit the dust turning to mush. Have my potatoes been frosted? and can they be salvaged? I have now brought them inside and if they are ok hope to get some planted in potato bags at the weekend.

Second thing is the place where I am going to put them is on pallets and I am going to build a surrounding wall with either fleece or some other material to help keep them warm - do you thing this will be ok?

I think the best thing you can do is plant them and the compost will protect them for a few days at least and as you put more compost in as they grow they should not need to much protection un till the spuds pop out of the top ob the bags and by that time the weather should be a lot warmer !!! hopefully if some frost are forecast you could pop the fleece over for the night .
provided the spuds with chits on are prety solid they should be ok the mushy ones have had it . jacob
