i put 1 plant into each basket that size last year...I wouldn't put any more than that in there as the basket was full by the time the fruits formed.

I agree, in fact this year I've bought some 16" hanging baskets too and am going to put 1 'hundreds and thousands' tomato plant in each.

I usually grow my toms in hanging baskets too, one per basket. I thought about trying Hundreds and thousands this year!

          Yes, put in one only.

It is hard to keep them moist even with only one plant, so resist the temptation to put in any more, even though it might look a bit bare at first.

I put 2 plants in 14" baskets of a tumbling tomato called Silvery Fir Tree last year. They did really well but did have a tendency to get a bit dry.

Also I used those rattan type baskets and they got all mishaped and spilled water out from one side. I'm going to buy some metail ones this year and avoid the problem.

The chrystals would help, I've not used vermiculite etc for water retention so I dunno on that.

                  - I also put in a plant pot holder at the bottom of the basket that acts as a water reservoir - works really well
                  Cheers

i've grown tumbling toms in 12inch baskets for last two years using only one plant per basket.Been very successful too.The guidance notes stated they were bush plants and you didn't need to pinch out leaves like other toms and mine grew like mad.would have struggled to fit two into the basket if they both grew that vigorously.
had a late start last year and was left with lots of fruit unripened as the weather turned colder in late autumn......does anyone have a good recipes for using green toms?
