  • Pkt Italian seeds..purple beans

I bought a packet of italian 'Trionfo Violetto' fagiolo nano seeds on hol last year, and I presumed they were the climbing purple runner beans, but on opening the packet they are extremely small like french bean seeds.. Now I don't know how to find out if they are climbers? Just a picture of purple beans on the packet..Anyone speak italian?

Hi Julie, grow the dwarf ones in pots then you don't have to bend down I've got 6 pots of "The Prince" in the greenhouse at the moment & they a fruiting well.

          Julie,

If the packet says "Fagiolo Nano" they are DWARF beans..... Climbing beans are "Fagiolo Rampicante". The ones in that photo from Smallblueplanet are Rampicante, therefore climbers which are not the same as your "Nanos".....

I've always grown Franchi's climbers but somehow they slipped a packet of Nano's into my last delivery and I was wondering for weeks why they were not getting on with it like the Cobras next to them! Bit of a disapointment as Franchi's Purple climbers are really early and incredibly prolific.... also I had space them for climbers and put up the poles then had to transplant every other one and have poles where I don't need them!

Ah well... that's the way of growing veg I guess... full of ups and downs...

Sorry Julie, don't exactly speak Italian but fagiolo means beans and nano means dwarf. So take it they are dwarf beans.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

Thanks one and all for the help..all set to put more bean sticks in this morning, and now checking find I don't need to- Would have been like Veggiemo, wondering why they weren't going up my poles! Good idea about pots, but not sure if I have enough.. and it means more watering.and with hose-pipe ban.... Will make a note of 'Franchi' seed dealers if they prove to be good!
