Some Young Farmers have just had a Dung Run to raise money for charity. They turned up at my door this afternoon to see if I'd like to buy a bag.

Well, I know my soil is not too good so thinking it could only improve it I paid my £2 and they left a bag.

Hmmm - what now? What should I do with it?

OK, dung is good stuff. What sort is it? Horse, cow, pig, chicken? How fresh is it (e.g. lots of straw/bedding in it, or well rotted and dark brown). How big was the bag?

Hmmm the only question I can answer is how big is it. About the size of a large bag of potatoes

if it looks like soil and smells like soil it is good to go, dig it in or mulch with it -especially good for leafy crops and courgettes.-no good for carrots.

If it looks and smells like dung, add it to your compost heap in layers with kitchen waste and greenstuff from the garden and shredded newspaper of straw. it will be great to spread in 6 months or so
