Tomato plants

I propagated my tomato seed early this month and now have some nice three inch high plants on my window sill. When will be the best time to move them to an unheated green house?

If you've got the time you could take them to your g/h during the day and bring them back when it gets dark/cold. Its still pretty cold at night.

That's what I do. I get my exercise for the day walking to and from the cold greenhouse during March/April. I wouldn't risk mine overnight till May. But I'm up here! where are you? It can make a HUGE difference. You need a big dining room table and no sense of proportion!

I suppose if your greenhouse was at the lottie or you didn't have a greenhouse yet, you could either put them in a cold frame during the day, situated next to the house, and bring them indoors at night. This should stop them getting leggy and because they won't be very big, a cold frame height would be adequate. Also if it was yuck outside on odd days they could be left on the windowsill now and again!

In a way depends on whereabouts you are in United Kingdom as there is no way of telling of your location. Where I am, for the past few weeks I have been able to leave them in the unheated greenhouse at night too but I check the local BBC weather forecast on the net every night before I go to bed. If it falls below 5, I bring them in just to be on the safe side.

Thanks for the advice everybody. I am in east yorkshire and the weather is still cold. I think that putting the plants in the g/h for the day only is a great idea and will do it.
