  • I've planted...when to transplant and harvet?

    Hi all,

I'm new to the gardening world but loving it!
I've planted radish (long white icicle), tomato, chilli pepper, peppers, sweet peas, runner beans, beetroot, carrots and onions.
So...when to transplant and do any of them not like to be moved? Will they all do well in containers and growbags?
    Also, harvesting???

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Catbud
Such a big issue to try and answer. Really need a bit more info. Let us know what you have sown, where (in pots / greenhouse / windowsill etc) and what stage the various plants or seedlings are at just now ( approx height, number of leaves - seed leaves or true leaves) and we'll do our level best to advise.

Hi Catbud, all the plants you've mentioned should be O.K. in containers or grow bags but some such as carrots, beetroot & radish are better sown directly where you want them to grow.If you've sown them in small pots or trays though the beetroot & radish could be moved when they are a few inches high & have a few decent leaves on them but I don't think you can really transplant carrots- you could try thinning them out a bit & transplanting them into a pot(fairly deep one) when they have some true(feathery) leaves, or just sow some new seeds directly into a pot.Onions do better in the ground rather than in a pot but you could put a few in one together & you will just get smaller onions.I usually plant out sweet peas & runner beans when they are about 6-8ins. tall, you can plant them in the ground or in large containers- they grow well together winding up a bamboo 'wigwam'.Your tomatoes, chillies & peppers will all grow in containers or grow bags & should be planted out when they are about 8-10ins. tall (just put each of them in a slightly larger pot for now if they are tiny) As for harvesting I think you'll have a while to wait before you worry about that!Good luck, happy growing.
