  • How hardy are peas??

I have some very happy peas (aka peedlings!) that are about 4" high and I would like to put up the net for them to climb. The problem is that we are forecast some seriously cold stuff for a while (-6), if I put up the net, I won't be able to fit over the cloche. Will they be alright?? or should I hold on and wait for another week or two until it passes and I can remember why I came to live in the south of France!!!

Some peas are hardier than others. It can roughly been gauged by the type of seed. If the seeds are round (i.e.quite plump and smooth) then they are hardier than those that are wrinkly. If you're in doubt I'd err on the side of caution!

Tootles, it's the same all over at the moment. As Flummers said, it depends on the type but a lot of the French peas are atypical. I'd stick with the hivernage for the next week or two or put them in a cold frame (Leclerc gardening do one that is high enough for peadlings).
