We dug up a couple of epicure first early potato plants yesterday (now about 12 weeks). They are lovely - varied sizes, but on each plant there was one mushy rotting potato. Could this be the original seed potato and should it happen?
    Thanks, Sue.

yep the seed potato, always happens. more evident on earlies as it has had less time to rot.

Suee, the first time I ever grew potatoes I put my hand in to feel around for any & the first thing I grabbed was the rotted seed potato- I was horrified & thought they'd got some nasty blight or something until I found the others & realised what it was!

My 2 1/2 year old daughter calls them the 'Mummy potato'. She loves emptying the potato buckets to find them and their babies
