  • Mineral Wool

I have a pack of Acoustic Mineral Wool Slab left over from a sound profofing project.

I've heard of folks using this stuff for growing plants.

Are there any veggies that I could grow in it ?

How do I dispose of it when done ?

    I wouldn't myself...

Mineral wool for insulation has been treated with water repellent and fire proof chemicals and, although not carcinogenic, is an irritant and careful handling is recommended.

It is made in the same way as the rock wool used in soil-free cultivation, but what you have is not the same end product and you should be careful.

If you are interested in soil-free growing, then buy the rockwool designed for the job.

(btw it is not considered "hazardous waste" so it can be taken to your local waste depot)

I was wondering about using rockwool to germinate chili seeds in, having trouble with some varieties - the longer season ones I think. Has anyone grown in rockwool, what are they like?
