  • Mulch Advice

We've got a large Christmas tree type thing in the garden, that's far too large for us to get the lights on now, so we've decided it's got to go. Once we've chopped it up a bit and whacked it through the shredder, is it safe to put it on the veg patch? Or indeed any part of the garden?

    Cheers

It's ok to use as a mulch but I wouldn't dig it in - pine needles in enough quantity may alter the pH balance as they are acidic.

Maybe put it around ornamentals, speading thinly.

Could also be used on paths!

I would either stack it for a couple of years to rot down (it will still be acidic) or use it on paths as Snadger suggests.

I would let it rot for 6 weeks and then put it on you Raspberries or blueberries they like a bit of acidity ( or any other acid loving plants) However i would use it in moderation and if you havent got any raspberries maybe nows the time.!
