As some of you are using loo rolls for raising parsnips before planting out, couldn't you also use peat pot? I've been put off by mouldy problem that some of you Grapes have had with loo rolls and as for newspaper pots, I can't be bothered making. I don't mind paying for them as I only plan on growing under 30.

The reason for using toilet rolls is to give the tap root room to grow.
If you use peat pots you will literally have to plant it out as soon as the seed has germinated, and you'll probably have to slit the material case to make sure the root isn't restricted.
you need pea tubes - black paper tubes about the length of a toilet roll. Easy to find in garden centres.
Long is good, short is bad.

Thanks for the clarification, I did wonder why Grapes were trying to save money using inner loo rolls when you can so easily/cheaply buy peat pots. Have not heard of pea tubes but will look out for them, subject to price . Besides haven't been collecting enough inner loo rolls anyway.Last edited by veg4681; 19-03-2008, 08:51 PM.Food for Free
