  • Help, Chilli flop problem

    Hi,
I have just been potting up my chilli's which were in a propagator. They have been on the sunny kitchen windowsill for half an hour and have all keeled over and look floppy / dying. Is this normal?? Help....

Never put freshly moved (young) plants and seedlings in the sun. You have disturbed their roots and they can't cope with the heat.

Move them out of any sun until they have recovered and settled in.

As Cc says, not a good idea to put newly planted seedlings/plants in strong sunlight - I imagine that their leaves are transpiring water faster than their disturbed roots can suck it up?

I usually put new transplants under the greenhouse staging for an hour or two. Keep yours cool and out of the sun and they'll be up again in a few hours.

If they were in a covered propagator and it was a heated one, then you should also aclimatise them to the cooler enviroment by leaving them in the propagator for a couple of days but with the lid off as they dont like a sudden change in temp when young.

they'll probably be fine though - I've had some pretty floppy plants which have recovered once I've given them a quick drink! I know how they feel ;o)

Could that be why my chilli and pepper plants have gone a bit crispy on the top leaves
