    elephant garlic

    I,ve grow this for some years and always plant in november. it needs a cold spell to split into cloves.store as for ordinary garlic.

      It's milder than normal garlic, I find it wonderful roasted whole, served with some bread as a garlic bread starter...Mine went in at the end of September...

        I grew them here for the first time this year and have just pulled them as I needed the room. They had buried themselves so deep that I had to use a shovel on some plants. Here's one to show the big root system on them.

          I treat Elephant garlic as a separate type of vegetable from garlic, and would not be without it. I roast it whole, or put cloves into casseroles and stews and mince. completely different flavour from garlic.
