Been looking through the bean catalogues (see other thread re. landrace beans) and more specifically looking for pea varieties suitable for drying. I cam across this variety that looks great, with purple pods you can pick as mangetout, followed by eating peas, followed by drying peas - has anyone here grown it? Plus I love the name!!

Just looks like the heritage variety of purple podded pea that I grow?
Grows about 6 foot high and has lots of small puple pods. Peas are very sweet and similar to a small mange tout when young. Never tried eating them as mange tout, so not sure whether they will keep there colour when cooked..........I doubt it!My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order
to present to him vegetables and all beautiful flowers.- Offerings of Thutmose III to Amon-Ra (1500 BCE)

I'm trying the Latvian drying pea from the HSL this year. I got 20 seeds and 19 are through. No experience yet of what they taste like but the flowers are bicoloured and very pretty according to the catalogue. If you buy them I'll do you a swap next season! (Assuming the Latvian are nice, of course!)Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.
