  • Composting the veg bed

Want to plant out some toms and onions, carrots and leeks very soon. Is it work mixing in some basic B&Q compost? The soil is dry on the surface (surprisingly enough) and under is fairly compact and dark brown...also loads of worms!

    So yay or nay?

Your soil sounds as if it's in great nick already - large quantities of worms will testify to that. You could add some compost but from the sound of it, I would be tempted to just fork it over to break up the compaction and treat it with either Growmore or Blood, Fish & Bone about a week before planting out.

Thanks will go shopping for some of that tomorrow!

I always feel guilty because I dread to think how many worms I manage to cut in half! Get some whoppers as well up to at least 4" long!
