i'm digging the ground now in a corner of the garden. i will be planting spuds and peas and other veg there. i was told to put bonemeal in the soil, is this alright or should i try something else. thanks pete

Bonemeals fine for this time of year as it gives a bit of slow release Nitro and Phosphate!
Nearer to flowering time you could use Blood ,Fish and bone meal to give the plants a boost, or a liquid tomato type feed which is high in potassium!
