  • I think i over did it!!!!

This is my first proper year growing as last year i only managed tomatoes because the greenhouse wasn't up and running.

This year however I have planted everything i could get my hands on, and at this moment in time i have 42 galia melons up , 5 sweetheart melons, 5 ogen, melons, 32 cucumbers, 27 courgettes, 10 tomatoes, 12 peppers not to mention spuds in 15 pots and 3 huge tubs of carrots.......wonders where the heck i am going to put 52 melons

Anyone else go mad or is it just me

Go on, show us yer melons!

LadyWayne has asked that I grow less courgettes this year (5 plants last year). One thing I learned from last year, was just because there are 3000 seeds in the packet, doesn't mean you have to sow 3000. Oh, and to sow what you do sow, bit by bit.

    Enthusiasm's cool, I love it!

Practise makes us a little better, it doesn't make us perfect.

I usually sow at least twice as many seeds as I need plants, to allow for less-than-100% germination and other failures. Then, if I have too many, I sell the excess at work for 25p or so each, to cover the cost of pots, compost, etc.

I hope you have lots of friends and colleagues with greenhouses who fancy trying melons this year!

Oh my word! That's a lot of stuff.

It's not so much the melons that worry me but the 32 cucumbers and 27 courgettes... have you any idea how many fruits these babies produce!!!

                Get some adoptive parents quickly

Me, I do it with tomatoes - got about 50 seedlings at the moment. But I am growing for three other recipients, thank goodness. It will still leave me struggling with where to put some, but that's all part of the fun!

You all would make perfect Boy Scouts....'be prepared'

It only takes one baby slug one evening to munch through a tray of seedlings you know!!

And there was me worrying about the blasted melons. Hadnt given a thought to the courgettes and cucumbers

Went out to greenhouse tis morning and couldnt believe it 4 more melons germinated over night 5 more courgettes and 3 more cucumbers. Think i might put them on freecycle just to get shot.

Have you thought of offering them on your local freecycle site? Thats what I'll be doing if all my seedlings come through

We always do this, but not quite to the extent you have Topaz! Have you got a massive greenhouse or a polytunnel to put them all in?

Which area do you live in? Maybe you live nearby to other Grapes who can take some off your hands & give you some things you don't have.
