  • The "no more parsnip germination threads" thread

No more. Pleeeeeeaase. I'm begging you.

Let's have no more threads about parsnip germination until... well... how about APRIL?

There's only so many times I can read about this detestable root without going stark raving bonkers

He he, I agree, although they have inspired me to have a go at parsnips myself this year.... wasn't going to bother but I like a challenge!

So remind me what I have to do with parsnips............?!

I was just going to put them in the ground and see what happened. Not going to ask any questions about them at all....YET!

Cute C. I take your point and I'm bored titless with it too, and peas in bog rolls and gutters as well for that matter.

Usually it is beginners who ask and thus we are here to try and help....are we not? Although we might edit a board with a selection of classic advice or say "why don't you just scroll back nitwit"....Infact I do try and put in more retrospective links to those folk who are unwilling/able to search. However It is then just becoming a reference book and the idea surely is a forum; where we discuss veg growing and make contact with like minded people.

I spend a bit of time helping others because it is confusing when you start and because it means a great deal to me for everyone to succeed (and thus take back the country from the grip of the supermarkets and fastfood giants). A small differance I grant you- but if we don't chip away ..etc.

Anyhow, It rarely affords me appreciation and sometimes really irritates my wife that I could be doing a thousand other things or bugs me that so few people answer the questions I ask from time to time. But there are some great folk here and from time to time I receive invaluable advice and humour in return- Thus it is an investment in the future of the site and our communities.

I am a relative newbie and sometimes when you search you don't get quite the same question as you need answering.

It does help to have lots of diff opinions on things as well as using the books. Hopefully the questions don't get repeated by the same people 2 years running! (numpties like me are making notes!)

I think most of us newbies to gardening are just really afraid we might get it all 'wrong', and just need reassurance that the world will not fall apart if we don't sow the exact 3/4 inch deep in homegrown compost with precise spacings etc...

I certainly hope to be giving advice next year and learning lots from my mistakes this year! So please bear with us, I am more than happy to be pointed in the right direction of a previous post if I have missed it!

My sincerest apologies if I have infuriated some of the senior Grapes here by reviving two parsnips threads. I only wanted to update these threads with my own reports/notes on parsnips growing progress in the hope that newbies to the forum can benefit from these useful reference. I'm sure lurking people are learning too which amazes me when newbies refer to PG with k-roll.

                        He he!

I'm not peeed off with anyone or anything, I just hate parsnips.

And three threads at once is just too much to bear

It's not easy saying the same thing over and over - I'm happy to do it, but I need gaps in between!

Do you need therapy for your parsnip phobia? Need to talk about it? Get it off your lottie, I mean chest?

                          janeyo

I have a thing about geraniums, if that makes you feel better, Can't Bear Them anywhere near my property! Shudder.

Guess what, all this talk of parsnips got me parsnip eating for dinner tonight . It was reduced supermarket ones which I froze.
