  • Hello - newbie veg gardener

and at the end of my pea cane...!
Please could anyone tell me when I sow my peas at varying intervals whether I can sow them in the same container and if so how far apart should they be from each other??? Daft question but hey I'm new to this!
    Thanks

I've always grown them (Mangetout) without ever reading up on growing guides so it was hit & miss every year with harvest. So I wouldn't recommend what I've done in the past (hope for the best approach ) even though I've had success and they're quite straightforward to grow so here's a link that you might find helpful.

How To Grow Peas, with lots of pictures, hints, tips and advice.

I'm sure someone will tell you exactly what to do but I don't trust myself to give superior advice.

BTW welcome to the vine. Any location to your profile?

I'm planning on doing something like the wire netting cage on the second page of that guide - I came up with a similar method myself last year, planting the young peas inside a wigwam covered in bird netting, and it seemed to work quite well considering a) I had never grown peas before and b) it wasn't exactly a great year for veg growing. This year I have some chicken wire left over from fencing off my salad garden from hungry chickens, so I'll be using that with four or six canes, along with a fairly dwarf petit-pois-type pea (Waverex, which only grows to about 60cm).

Thanks Eyren, that's really helpful. I've planned on using chicken wire and canes too so finger's crossed (hope it doesn't snow this weekend as am planning to sow!)
