Limp lame lettuce

I planted some iceberg-type lettuce seeds a month ago into a seed tray which I've kept on on north-facing window ledge, occasionally bringing them over to the south side for some extra warmth. I'm wondering if I should have waited and sown them where they are to grow because I can't work out how I can repot the limp lame things.

They've always been a bit flimsy but I thought they might just need a bit more water, or a little more warmth and they'll perk up, but it hasn't happened yet.

They've got a couple of pairs of leaves on them but are just lying in a heap on the tray.

Does this sound right?

Oh! I've stuck this under 'fruit' as I was distracted by growing fruit trees in pots. Sorry!

Sorry to be brief, but here goes.
Compost them and start again. they need more light than a North window, and Feb sowing was too early anyway; in my opinion I've only just sown my lettuce today on the windowsills.

I've got some Lollo Rossa lettuce seedlings in cell trays, two per cell, sown direct into the cell tray and then thinned out. They're in the cold greenhouse - plenty of light, no frost and not too hot. Hoping to plant them out for the slugs to eat this weekend or next.

Thanks for your replies - I might do a mixture of both then. See if my current ones do any better, and sow some new ones keeping them on the South side of the house! The first lot certainly don't look like they're ready to go out - but I followed the instructions on the packet so I don't know why they're so floppy.

I planted some lettuce in feb but just cut n come again leaves - in a tray on a south windowsill. the baby leaves (also rocket) make a very nice addition to a sandwich

Not sure I agree that it is too early, cool season lettuce is the best (because it is slower to bolt)if you grow it under cloches/greenhouse. The trick with lettuce is to keep on sowing it every two weeks (I do it in module trays) Little and often.

Thanks for everyone's feedback. I'm going to sow some more today in a propogator and see how it goes this time!
