I've not seen a single slug in my garden yet, but I imagine they are all gathering together somewhere plotting this years assault on my veg. But I'm ready for them!!!

i am getting really worried about slugs now!!! i havent found any yet! but i found some frogs last night and i back onto some lovely fields so hoping that as i have a lot of wildlife i will be ok!!!!!!!

Just seen Monty Don on Gardeners World and he was saying use used coffee granules (from the perc) and they will deter the slugs as they will want to get off as soon as they get on and its organic, also that he is gonna try totally organic slug pellets!!

hope this helps, i am dreading the onslaught of them!! yuk they are horrid things!

            50,000 snails.
1,000,000,236,117 slugs mainly in egg form..

In the field next to us massing at the fence.. waiting for warmer weather.

At present still too cold for slugs altho our turkeys have decided it's now spring so sex is on the menu:-)

How do I know what the eggs look like? Are they in clusters under bricks etc?

We generally only find them when we go hunting if it's been raining. No sign if it's dry. Maybe I am looking in the wrong place?

Today I found a solitary medium sized under a plastic sheet used to cover the unused part of bed. Sorry but I had to kill it .

Apparently it's the little ones that do all the damage 'cos they live beneath the surface of the soil. I've not seen one yet (although a suspicious bite-like chunk has been taken out of one of my pea plants!) so I'm planning ahead.

I saw Monty Don on the telly on Friday too, but I'm planning to use the method he used last year on Gardener's World - it worked really well for me. I've surrounded my beds with copper (piping last year, but this year I'm buying really long strips that I'll screw to the concreate slaps round my beds) and then I'll use nematodes. The copper will stop any slugs and snails getting in or out of the beds and the nematodes (who are parasites of the slug) will kill off the slugs (and maybe some of the snails?) in the soil.

                      Ta dah!

I've found only one so far - an orange one hiding in the rotten remains of an oak post I was digging out.
I'm a beer trapper but after a successful start years ago I have not been able to catch any more recently. I may resort to pellets under the hedges but would rather provide a habitat for the hedgehogs...
