  • Advice on how to get reay for a fresh start please.

    Hubbie has prepared the plot and we have a plan all drawn up ready. Trouble is I still have some things in as follows;

    5 beetroot (which we could get away with hearvesting) in the potato area

    20 leeks in the carrot area

    30 leeks in the garlic area

    5 cabbages (which are rather small*) in the french bean area
    * maybe I should move these as they are too small to harvest?

    What would you do? - scoff, freeze or transplant?

    I'd freeze the leeks and dig up the beetroot - but I am a bit anal and I like to have a completely clear plot at the beginning of the year!

      Scoff the lot!

        Make loads of leek and potato soup to freeze. Eat your beets (5 is barely a mouthful); use the cabbage leaves for stir fry.
        That's what I'd do.

          Scoff the lot and start afresh...........good luck with your 'new' allotment.

            They are all correct of course...clever lot on here!...the cabbages won't transplant well at this stage. How about a nice leek and potato soup? lovely on a snowy day!

            Leeks will run to seed soon anyway...Cheesy leeks nice: make white sauce(add a bay leaf and nutmeg) while steaming leeks then add whatever cheese you can find to it leave the leeks in a colander to drain THOUGHERLY. Cover with sauce a bit more cheese and pop in oven or under the grill for 10-15 mins. MMMmmm
