  • Are my seeds dead?

I have been growing veg for 3 years and never had to contend with snow before.....will my parsnip, perp spinach, mustard lettuce and carrot seeds have died? They are sown so close to the surface that they must have forzen....

What about potatoes will they be ok?

    HELP PLEASE!

Good grief - if that were the case we'd never get crops up north!!!

I'm sure they are fine, but nobody will really know until they either germinate or not.

All the above seeds mentioned above are pretty hardy; and I am assuming that the potatoes are under ground, in which case they will be fine. If the leaves shrivel up then they will grow more.

you haven't planted all your parsnoop seeds have you - There are 400 in my packet and nobody needs 400 parsnips surely!!!

I always sow little and often just in case...

They'll be fine I'm sure - and no, you can sow more parsnips now if you like.

Plenty of time to sow parsnips yet. Flummery is right, a covering of snow is as good as fleece, it will keep the cold winds and frost of the seedlings.

Well my carrots and parnsips have vanished! No signs of anything above or underground... so have started again in a new bed with fleece this time.
