  • lunar planting

I'm sure some lovely person on here can help me on this. If I sow my seed in the greenhouse on the relevant day, do I have to plant out on the relevant day also? Going to have a bash with it to see what if anything occurs.
    Thanks
    Chris

I don't think its as important as sowing seeds but I think it still has value. For instance I waited until yesterday (a fruit/seed/fire) day before potting on tomatoes. I don't know if it has benefit or not because I'm doing doing a control crop.

Don't forget you've got to use lunar guides in harmony with the current conditions. If its cold or wet these should alo influnce your decision.

My other half an I are very interested in lunar planting after seeing one of the members on Big Dig in Cardiff give it a go. The results were incredible from his test.

As I understand it from the Maria Thun books, if you can do ANYTHING that you need to do to a plant on the relevant days - sow, prick out, plant on, hoe around!, harvest - then this is meant to be the most beneficial to the plant.

It's difficult to do - as Matt says - it's often unlikely that your fruit day will be suitable for planting out due to the weather.

I try to stick to the flower/fruit/root/leaf days but I don't feel bound by it - I use it more as a guide to memory really. If the weather is okay for planting, I look at the guide and see what is best to plant, then look at my seedbox (the packets are organised by flower/fruit/root/leaf) and plant something suitable for the time of year. at the very least, if you can avoid the worst times for planting something then that's something. I downloaded a handy Google tool from this website.

          Hi ChrisH54

I am in the middle of a moon planting trial. See my blog spot on the sig.

3 more sets of sowings to go. Not much info yet, but I will be doing everything on the right day for the moon, and on the opposite day for the non-moon.

If you are looking to do the same, it would be good to have comparisons.

I'll be posting photos of each crop as soon as there is foliage to see; and will be weighting the crops from the strongest of each of the sets of sowings.

I love the idea but if it is a load of piffle, I'd like to know rather than not. If it isn't, then I'll stick to it more rigidly [allowing for weather as well, of course].

Thanks for all the tips. Put in some broad beans today so I shall have to see how they go. Yes I saw this on Big Dig but also on Digging for Victory.

Will be interested to hear how your experiment works zazen. I wish you every success, as you say you will have to wait for the results - may they be good ones.
