I've been given some seeds called Mangel - Yellow Intermediate. Can anyone tell me what they are, when/how to plant and anything else about a Mangel? I've tried googling but it didn't come up with anything helpful.

I think HSL supplies this one, and you can either use it for brewing, or eat it small as a beet. There's a post about it here:
Horticultural: A beet-er aftertaste
if it's any help I can have a look in the HSL catalogues late and see if it was listed and has any more details.

It's a prerequisite for growing them that you wear a smock and stick a bit of straw in your mouth! My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order

Swede is my favourite vegetable, in fact I've just had the last of this years crop with me dinner!
Got some sown in trays to plant out later and I'll also direct sow some.
My fav veg are swede, leek, carrot, kale, onions and tatties in that order!
PS Looks like I'll have to dig out the smock then!Last edited by Snadger; 09-04-2008, 08:36 PM.My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order

I did a google and Mangold -Wurzel (Mangel-Wurzel)belongs to Genus Beta Beets which includes Sugar Beet in the Family.
Swedeor yellow Turnips belong to the Brassica napus family .
So Snadger you are safe eating Swedes Mangold's are good for making wine though that should keep the alkofrolic fraternity happy jacobWhat lies behind us,And what lies before us,Are tiny matters compared to what lies Within us ...
