  • fed up with chillis

I have had 3 goes at sowing anaheim chillis. Not one has come up. I covered them and did exactly what it said and nada.

I spose it's a good job I am not a big fan of chillis - but OH is and I wanted to surprise him.. maybe time to cheat and go get a plug plant!

Are the seeds fresh? I tried Anaheim once, they didn't seem the most exciting or productive of chillis.

Try cayenne, they're fairly straightforward, gives a good crop and are a reasonable chilli hotness, but not extreme.

Tey germinate better if kept warm ( eated propogator or airing cupboard). Once germinated tey are as easy as tomatoes. Sorry, for some reason my aic key isn't working

My Anaheim took 20 days to come through - in dark and warm. Be patient.

Funny that, I was nearly ready for chucking mine out cos it was last years seed and maybe not viable, when as you say, a few started popping through after a fortnight. I now have about a 95% success rate! Certainly worth waiting for!

i was thinking the same about the anaheim and jalapeno seeds I'd sown...however I've got 4 of each coming through, so absolutely delighted. Probably took about 3-4 weeks I would think to show! Are they normally a bit temperamental?

Well, I gave up on my first batch after about a month ...luckily GYO sent a mixed packet of chile seeds 11/12 sown up in a week-10 days (in the same propagator). Don't know what they are but I'll make space... suck em and see variety eh

it does take differnet times for different seeds....pretty sure at chilli's galore theres a piece talking about the germination rates....

I'd give up after a month too. I've even tried sprouting them in a cotton square for the first week or so, which doesn't seem to effect their germination at all.
                    I love growing tomatoes.
