Stick it in and hope for the best. It is a bit late but the garden centers are still selling the stuff. Even if it doesn't grow much of a bulb it will produce some growth that will have a garlic flavour that you will be able to use.

it is late cos garlic needs a few good frosts to make the clove split and become a good bulb - but as is said above - give it a go, nothing to lose

Welcome to the Vine Compobulb. Yes, you are too late to grow decent garlic this year (plant some in November) but you can plant that old bulb. It won't make much of a bulb, but it will make green shoots which are garlic flavoured and you can use them in soups and stews. Go for it.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

I totally agree with Alice. Garlic is one of those things that can be planted anytime of the year and still give results. Autumn planted is best, followed by early spring planted. Any other time you may or may not get bulbils but you will deffo get nice garlicky tasting topgrowth!
