  • Tomorrow - Onion Sets and Potatoes?

I was planning on planting out my spuds in their containers tomorrow and putting onions sets into my new raised beds. Is it okay to do this or still too cold? Everything else will continue to sit on windowsills for a while.

Not sure how much colder it is up there compared to here, but I put my onion sets in last week & I'll be planting potatoes over the weekend

It was 12 degrees here today, bit of a breeze but very sunny, supposedly going to last, for a while at least.

My onion sets are in, my early spuds are in, my early spuds in pots in the greenhouse are in and up and my maincrop spuds will go in in a week or two outside!

My onion sets went into the allotment last week and the first earlies the weekend before. If you are worried about the weather then just cover them over at night with a bit of garden fleece on the colder nights.

Hi Amanda! I was going to plant my tatties and a few cabbage, (forgotten what else!) today but the weather was very very windy and cold.

Going to plant my tatties tomorrow (come what may! - but Ive been saying that for the last four weeks!).

Havent done any planting today 'coz got a bug that my OH very kindly passed onto me from his works. (Feeling very rough, tired and everything aches!).

What I DO plant tomorrow will be covered with fleece to protect them from the cold.

            Hope this helps!

PS Snadger - you are always well organised!

My onions have been in since about October - but I think they were Autumn planting. Just in case I also planted some in pots at the same time - they went in last weekend.

Planted my first earlies last weekend too, and I'll probably put the seconds and mains in next weekend.

Weather report said it'll be getting warmer from next week - we'll see eh?

Hello Amanda, I'm in Perthshire. My onion sets are in and green shoots showing. My potatoes are in their buckets, but not up. If the shoots show and we have frost I'll just put some fleece over them. I think you're safe to get on with it.

Well, they're in now, 7 containers of spuds and a raised bed of onions. Fingers crossed that we're onto a winner.
