  • Planting Runners - which way up?

I've got some runners (thanks Slooky!!) but am not sure which way up to plant em (ok, go on laugh!!) Do I sow them on their ends - i.e. standing up, or lying down on their backs with the "nick" bit on them upwards? Thanks.

The "nick" bit, or scar, downwards is generally thought to be most propitious.
Sent from my pc cos I don't have an i-phone.

I always plant mine on their end then the water doesn't sit on the scar and rot it.

Think about "in the wild" ... seeds just fall off the plant, and somehow manage to grow. It doesn't really matter which way up they go, they know what to do.

I do them with the scar to the side - but nature doesn't! They do manage to shove the root down and poke the shoot up without our help!
