  • Dwarf Beans etc

    Morning Folks,

I planted some dwarf beans, runners, and peas about a month ago and wondered when they could go out as I've lost 50% of my kitchen!

Would it be ok to put them in a cold frame or can I pop then in the raised bed now?

Also, the runners are about a a foot high, do they need support?

    Cheers

    Hi Broadway,

Peas could go out I think, after hardening them off. Dwarf Beans are very cold sensitive so will need protection just in case of frost and the same goes for runners. If they are a foot high they do need support or they will fall over and get tangled.

It all depends on the weather and how sheltered you are, here there is no point in planting Dwarf beans before mid May and we can't grow Runners anyway.

    Best of luck

      Thanks Roitelet,

I'll leave them another week and see how the weather goes.

I believe dwarf beans are a little more cold tollerant than runners. I am going to take a chance and plant a few out today. Will put a pop bottle cloche over each one and will have the fleece ready for frosty nights. Will also sow another batch of beans just in case.

My dwarf beans are still in the packet! I shall sow them in pots at the end of the month and harden them off before planting - they rarely go in the ground here before end of May or even early June. However, cautious old beggar that I am, I don't lose me crop to the frosts!
