Pigeons Love Calibrese

Please can anyone help me with this problem, i have an allotment and did have a really nice crop of calibrese up until a week or two ago. Then the pigeons moved in and began eating at will. I did net them but that was stunting the growth upwards(no not the pigeons but the calibrese) i've put strings up with ribbons and even built a scarecrow. Any other suggestions gratefully accepted.

You need to make a frame or use stakes with empty mineral water bottles over them or make a T shape with two pieces of wood to keep the net above your calibrese. Netting is the only way I have found to protect the veg. Be sure the net reaches the ground all around otherwise the pigeons simply walk underneath the net!!
