  • vole problem

Since last summer we have noticed about a dozen 2" diam holes in our borders. Just spotted a mouse-sized animal but with short tail and round snout -think it could be a vole.

Dont know if this is the right place to ask, but would like to know if voles damage crops. Are they regarded as vermin? What should we do?

Hello Slugcrusher, no expert here, but I had voles in my last garden (moved house recently). I never noticed any damage they did, they don't invade houses or sheds, and don't carry any disease that I know about - so don't regard them as vermin. We never did anything about them. Just left them for the owls to take care of. But see what others think.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

I have the same thing at my lottie this spring, little tunnels EVERYWHERE!!!! So far though they don't seem to have done any harm to anything.

Voles are great! And an essential part of the food chain for Owls etc.
Nestled somewhere in the Cambridgeshire Fens. Good soil, strong winds and 4 Giant Puffballs!
