Is it too late to start sprouting potatoes now? I'm starting very late this year due to house-moving issues. I'm planning to grow them in containers outdoors.

If you think about it you should be able to plant them up till around August......If you want homegrown new pots for Christmas you're meant to plant them around August time but remember to keep them frost free.Nestled somewhere in the Cambridgeshire Fens. I agree - don’t waste time chitting. Get them in. But you’ll be fine - here in the West Country, anyway, I can plant my spuds in June and they’ll still do well. This is especially true when (like me) you're growing all or most in containers, because of course you can protect those from frost at the very end of the season, thus giving you another few weeks of growing time.
Speaking of spud pots - I am desperately looking for a source (mail order, preferably) of really cheap pots suitable for growing potatoes in. I’ve already got about 40, I admit, but the thing is, somehow, I’ve ended up with dozens of seed potatoes this year, so I have run out of containers! Any suggestions?Mat

ive just planted mine in pots very large ones, they are covered with about 5 inch of soil/compost mix then as they grow more earth is added like earthing up in the garden. you can force potatoes in the green house a few months early or protect against frost if growing late, if your green house is heated grow all year round. new spuds at christmas yummy.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it and if you ain't going to eat it, don't kill it
