100% germination! thats a first for me.

Do you always do the same method with the cup of water for all sweetcorn varieties?
I'm green with envy, the first batch I did drowned, Checked the greenhouse tonight and I have shoots pushing through the soil, hurray. Now just need to stay away from the watering can for a bit

Yes I always use the same method, I put the seeds into a cup of water for 2 or 3 days until they start to show a white shoot then I drain them and plant them.
It seems to work very well especially if when you first imerse them the water is warm.

As for watering most of mine is done with capillary matting but when I do water using the can then I always wait until the surface is dry to the touch.

I've only ever just pushed the sweetcorn seed into a root trainer and have never had more than the odd individual failure (and none this year) so I'm not really sure it's necessary to soak.

It isnt necessary to soak them but it does aid slightly quicker germination thats why I do it.

How long did it take for your sweetcorn to show?
Mine have been in a week now, so should I expect them in the next week or so?
Next time I will soak them first too, give them a bit of a boost.

I soaked mine for 2 days then planted them they had all showed through 2 days later, so 4 days in total.

i too have 100% germination on sweetcorn, it was about 10 days ago that i put them in loo rolls in the mini greenhouse (inside a big greenhouse) and they are there, i am chuffed, everything i have sown has grown, and i am a complete and utter novice!

lets hope that they stay that way and grow plentiful!!

Congrats! I sowed 12 and only 2 have germinated And that was 3 weeks ago....

Wow, soaking really does speed things up doesn't it.
What else can be soaked to give it a kick start?
