I've been reading about grafting a tomato plant onto a potato plant, to maximise space. Has anyone here tried it? I quite fancy having a go!

Yes I did graft one myself many moons ago, just as an experiment.
With the new potato leaved varieties of tomato like Tamina it should be a doddle.
Rub out all the eyes on your spud apart from one. Once the shoot breaks the surface plant a suitable tomato next to it.(Thats the knack, having them both with a similar width of stem!) Wait until the both reach about 6 to 8 inches then splice the two together with an upward diagonal cut in the tomato and a downward diagonal cut in the potato. Wrap the splice with string to hold it together. Once the splice has taken the tomato can be severed from it's roots and the top of the potato foliage can be cut off, lo and behold you have a Tomtater!
Theoretically you should be able to harvest tomatoes throughout the season at at the end of season dig the plant up and harvest the spuds! My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order

I've just given my spare tomatoes away but another thing you can do with them is pot them up into a 5 inch pot and take the growing tip out, one leaf beyond the first truss for a few early tomatoes on the stagingMy Majesty made for him a garden anew in order

Just planted my potato. Have a range of Tommie seedlings in greenhouse so will hopefully be able to find a suitable partner for it once it has grown. Potato in a pot at the moment, but I will transfer to compost bag when I get to splicing stage. Will take pics and keep you posted.
