  • Help! Chilli crisis!

Help please!!! One of our chillis has developed some sort of leaf problem - I am panicking now and fearing the worst! Does anyone recognise the problem?

Its all over some of the big leaves but just developing on others and not at all on the small newer leaves.

It doesn't look like leaf miner. If anything the 'spots' on the leaf are raised up. Here's the underside of one leaf, it looks okay.

I came home from work today and checked mine in the GH and found 3 plants with a couple of the leaves "snipped off". Leaves not eaten, but lying on the compost. They haven't fallen off because you can see part of the stalk still on plant. Plants look really healthy but looks just as if someone has cut leaves off with scissors. Only small plastic GH so emptied out and looked for beasties but could find nothing. Any ideas please? Hope you find an answer too SBP

Leaf miner is a totally differant creature, it eats the leaf from the inside you can see tunnels inside the leaf.

Yeah I was just pointing out the chillis are getting other forms of attack too We normally see the cutter bees taking clematis leaves!

Sally - sparrows are fond of 'snipping' things!?

The foliage on mypepper plants developed spots or lesions and the leaves have dropped off.
This could be a combination of three foliage diseases: Alternaria leaf spot, Cercospora leaf spot and bacterial leaf spot. In most cases, two or more of these occur simultaneously on the foliage. They can be controlled with foliar sprays using a combination of chlorothalanoil and Kocide or any other copper fungicide. Begin at the first sign of the disease and continue at 1- to 2- week intervals during the critical disease periods.

The foliage and fruit of my pepper plants are distorted and small. The leaves have a mosaic pattern.
This could be one of five viruses that attack peppers. The best control is to buy healthy plants and to follow approved cultural practices and a good insecticide program. The viruses are transmitted by aphids. For this reason, it is important to control insects. Also, when a plant becomes infected with one of the viruses, remove the plant.

Your chillies look great SBP. I know everyone expects their plants to be perfect but it rarely happens. We all have our little imperfections - and so do plants. If they are doing well overall I wouldn't worry about it. Hope they do great.

SBP: pge 109 of hessayon would suggest a trace element shortage [yellowing between the veins]. Possibility?

                            Hi Manda,
I had that last year and it was Red Spider Mite. I always used a sulphur candle before I put anything in the greenhouse, but when the grape vine went in, the candle couldn't be used, so I used Derris. You'll be pleased to know it's organic

If it ain't broke, don't fix it and if you ain't going to eat it, don't kill it
