  • Tomato advice please!!!!

I am growing two varietys of toms in the greenhouse

Gardeners delight, in troughs, seen very happy - but my bigger ones, which i can remember the name of (because until this site i didnt realise how many different varieties there were doh!!!!) - anyway they are growing really well, but some of the leaves a looking a little yellowy with a small hole in some, they are the lower leaves!

Would this be the sun burning them, i have some fleece hanging over the poles, but i dont want them ruined as they are my first babies to grow and i am tending them like they are!!!!

    Cheers

It could very easily be the sun SS - but if it's just a bit of damage on lower leaves I wouldn't get too worried. Try not to splash the leaves when you water. As long as the plant is growing strongly, it won't suffer too badly. After all, many people remove the lower leaves once the fruits begin to ripen, to help with air circulation.

Also the lower leaves tend to go a bit yellow when the plants start to develop fruit.

        thanks a lot

i am not too worried as the plants look really really healthy, so healthy in fact that my sister came around yesterday and i was showing her my veggies all in the greenhouse and she had the nerve to say

"are you sure you grew all these from seed?? they look like you bought them in a shop!!!"

Suffice to say, she doesnt remember the next 15 minutes as she was flat out on the greenhouse floor lol :-)

        thanks SS

I counted my toms earlier today; I have one already fruiting, 2 just behind it and another 27 about 3-6 inches tall, and I sowed loads more at the weekend. I forgot I had the 27 as they are all over the house and part of my moon trial.

          Good job I love toms.

            hiya zazen

i have a 16 individual plants!!!!!!!!!! and i have never ever grown anything before in my life,

I have been bitten by the bug and have plants in the ground and containers, i think i may take some tomatoes to school for the kids to eat in the summer, they all helped me start them off when i first sowed, i work in a nursery and they are curious and very helpful with the lovely compost!!!

That's not bad for a newbie!!!

I've just found another 3 on a windowledge...going to be a tomato-ey summer with any luck.

I'm sure the kids will love them, esp if they helped sow them.
