Do peas self pollinate?

I have just bought some small mesh debris net I intend to use over the peas to stop the pea moth - this means bees etc wont be able to access them.

Will my pea flowers turn into pea pods without the bees intervention? I tried to test this last year but they all died of mildew anyway!

Yes - they will self pollinate, actually wondered this myself a few years ago after I netted them against the critters, my problem then was, I had normal peas and mange tout in the same row and forgot which was which until after I'd eaten the kelvedon wonder as mange tout!!

Pea moth lays her eggs in June and July. Try and get your peas into flower before June and you should be okay.
Sow some more in late May too for successional cropping, although these will be prone to powdery mildew
